The book of Proverbs is often referred to as the book of wisdom. It is made up of short sayings, or proverbs, about wisdom and about life.
It is generally believe that most of the book was written by King Solomon and he identifies himself as the author on three different occasions, at the beginning in Proverbs 1:1 and then again in 10:1 and 25:1. The final two chapters identify as having different authors, but not much is known about them.
Proverbs main purpose is to teach wisdom to the people of God. It differs from other books of the Bible which teach great theological truths, or give prophesies, or records of history. Proverbs focuses on instructing people in how to find and follow wisdom and live life with that wisdom. In that regard it is a very practical book.
There are 31 chapters in the book of Proverbs, which make it the perfect book to study in one month, reading one chapter a day.
