19 Scriptures to Pray for Your Marriage

19 Scriptures to Pray for Your Marriage

Marriage is not easy.  Falling in love is easy, but marriage can be hard work.  Marriage relationships require unconditional love and forgiveness from both parties, and a commitment to making a life together.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 says that two are better than one as they can help and support each other and verse 12 says that a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

When we invite Jesus into our marriage, that threefold cord is created.  It is no longer just the two of you working at it, but you have the resources of heaven to call on as well.

God’s Word is powerful, and it says that the prayers of the righteous person are powerful and effective (James 5:16).

As we pray scripture God promises that it will accomplish His purposes and prosper (Isaiah 55:11).

Here are 19 scriptures you can pray for your marriage.

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” says Yahweh, “thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future.

Lord, thank you that you have a good plan for us, and our marriage, and we claim Your hope and Your future for us in Jesus Name.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Love is patient and is kind. Love doesn’t envy. Love doesn’t brag, is not proud, doesn’t behave itself inappropriately, doesn’t seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil; doesn’t rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will be done away with. Where there are various languages, they will cease. Where there is knowledge, it will be done away with.

Thank you Lord for Your love for us, help us to demonstrate Your love to each other.

Proverbs 24:3-4

Through wisdom a house is built; by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all rare and beautiful treasure.

Lord, thank You that You are Wisdom, and that You have promised to give us Your Wisdom if we ask for it (James 1:5).  Fill us with Your wisdom for all areas of our marriage and family.

Hebrews 13:4

Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers.

Thank You Lord for the blessing and gift of marriage and we ask that You would protect us from anything that would try to destroy or undermine our marriage and our relationship with each other.

Ephesians 4:32

And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.

Thank You Lord for Your kindness and Your forgiveness toward us.  Help us Lord to show Your kindness and forgiveness to each other.

Psalm 1:1-3

Blessed is the man who doesn’t walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand on the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in Yahweh’s law. On his law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree planted by the streams of water, that produces its fruit in its season, whose leaf also does not wither. Whatever he does shall prosper.

Lord, help us to delight in You. May our marriage be like the tree planted by the streams of water, growing, prospering, and producing good fruit.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up. Again, if two lie together, then they have warmth; but how can one keep warm alone? If a man prevails against one who is alone, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

Thank You Lord for our marriage. Help us Lord to always encourage each other, support each other, and build each other up.  May we always remember to keep You central to our relationship.

Isaiah 62:5

As a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so your God will rejoice over you.

Help us Lord to rejoice, celebrate, and delight over each other, just as You rejoice, celebrate, and delight over us.

Romans 15:5-6

Now the God of perseverance and of encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus, that with one accord you may with one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Lord, grant us unity of mind and harmony with each other, and with You, that we may glorify You together.

Philippians 2:14

Do all things without complaining and arguing.

Help us Lord to be more patient and considerate and to do all things without complaining or arguing.

Hebrews 10:24

Let’s consider how to provoke one another to love and good works

Help us Lord to be more encouraging of each other.

2 Corinthians 12:9

He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.

Thank You Lord that You have promised that Your grace is available, and sufficient for us, not matter what our circumstances, and we ask for that grace, especially in our times of need.

Isaiah 64:8

But now, Yahweh, you are our Father. We are the clay and you our potter. We all are the work of your hand.

Lord, we are the clay in Your hands, mold us, and our marriage, into Your likeness.

Galatians 5:22-23

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Lord, we ask that You would help us to grow in, and display, the fruit of Your Spirit in our lives and in our marriage.

Ephesians 4:29

Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear.

Lord, we ask that our speech would always be glorifying to you, that we would think before we speak, and that our words would be encouraging to each other.

Philippians 2:3-7

Doing nothing through rivalry or through conceit, but in humility, each counting others better than himself; each of you not just looking to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others. Have this in your mind, which was also in Christ Jesus,  who, existing in the form of God, didn’t consider equality with God a thing to be grasped,  but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men.

Thank You Lord for Your example of humility and a servant heart, may we be more like You, looking to the needs of each other more than our own.

James 4:8

Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners. Purify your hearts, you double-minded.

We come to You Lord, to draw near to You, and we thank You that You promise to draw near to us.

James 5:16

Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective.

Help us Lord in our forgiveness of each other, and also as we need to ask for forgiveness, remembering Your grace in forgiving us.  Help us to hold each other in prayer and continue to lift each other up and encourage each other.

Habakkuk 3:18

Yet I will rejoice in Yahweh. I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!

Together Lord, we rejoice in You, and in the gift of our salvation!

The enemy wants to destroy marriages and families.  We are not just in an earthly struggle, but a spiritual one (Ephesians 6:12).  God wants to be a part of our lives, and our marriage, to protect, encourage, strengthen and sustain us.  May the truth of God’s Word be at work in your lives, and in your marriage (1 Thessalonians 2:13).

21 Bible Verses on Grace

21 Bible Verses on Grace

What is grace?

Grace is the undeserved and unwarranted favour of God.

God shows His grace to us in many ways, the greatest being His unconditional love demonstrated in Jesus’ death on the cross for our sins, and His victorious resurrection three days later, making a way for us to have a personal and intimate relationship with Him.

The Bible speaks a lot about God’s grace.

15 Bible Verses on Forgiveness

15 Bible Verses on Forgiveness

What does it mean to forgive?

Forgiveness is a conscious and intentional choice to release our negative feelings of resentment and revenge held towards those who have hurt us.  Forgiveness is a choice and is not based on the worthiness of the person being forgiven.

Forgiveness frees us of negative and damaging emotions.

The benefits of forgiveness are many, better physical health, improved mental health, a stronger immune system, fewer symptoms of depression just to name a few.

What if I’ve asked for forgiveness but the other person won’t forgive me?

Being forgiven by someone is a beautiful gift, but we can’t force others to forgive us and sometimes we may need to accept that they are on their own journey and may not be ready yet to offer that to us.  It can be a difficult situation to be in but with time and love hopefully restoration can occur.

What about God’s forgiveness?

God’s forgiveness is amazing, His love is unconditional and His forgiveness is given to anyone who genuinely asks for it.

It came at a great cost to Him.  Hebrews 9:22 tells us that without the shedding of blood there can be no forgiveness of sins.  This is why Jesus died on the cross for us and shed His precious blood, so that we can be forgiven and have a relationship with Him (1 Peter 3:18, John 3:16).

How do we receive God’s forgiveness?  All we need to do is ask for it.  The Bible tells us that if we confess our sins to God He will forgive us, but not just forgive, He will cleanse us from all unrighteousness, making us positionally righteous in His sight.  Wow! That’s pretty awesome!

Reading God’s Word, meditating on it and Scripture Journaling are great ways to reflect on God, His Word and the forgiveness He offers us.

The following verses are a great starting point.

Take them one at a time and, as you meditate on them, allow God to speak His truth into you and allow His Word to transform you and your thinking.

1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Colossians 3:13
Bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do.

Matthew 6:14-15
For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Ephesians 4:32
And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.

Acts 3:19
Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, so that there may come times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord.

Isaiah 1:18
“Come now, and let’s reason together,” says Yahweh: “Though your sins are as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new.

Ephesians 1:7
In whom we have our redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.

Psalm 103:12
As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

Micah 7:18-19
Who is a God like you, who pardons iniquity, and passes over the disobedience of the remnant of his heritage?  He doesn’t retain his anger forever, because he delights in loving kindness.  He will again have compassion on us.  He will tread our iniquities under foot; and you will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

Matthew 6:12
Forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors.

2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Isaiah 43:25
I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake; and I will not remember your sins.

Jeremiah 31:34
For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

Mark 11:25
Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone; so that your Father, who is in heaven, may also forgive you your transgressions.

19 Bible Verses on Fear and Anxiety + Printable

19 Bible Verses on Fear and Anxiety + Printable

Fear and anxiety are natural emotions.  They can stem from both real and perceived dangers.

Everyone experiences fear and anxiety at some point in their lives, often when we feel in danger or out of control.

It’s easy to feel fearful when there are so many bad things happening in the world we live in.

The emotions themselves are not bad, in fact sometimes they can be good, if they result in positive action ie when faced with a dangerous situation which causes you to act.

It’s ok to visit these emotions, just don’t set up camp there.

What do I mean by that?

Feeling these emotions is ok so long as we acknowledge them, deal with them and move on.

If we get ‘stuck’ (set up camp) in the emotions of fear and anxiety, if they are having a negative effect on us and our wellbeing and if we are unable to move forward then we have a problem.

There may be times that we will need to speak with a professional, such as a counsellor, to help us with strategies to deal with our fears and anxieties.

As Christians, we can find comfort and strength in God and His Word.

Reading God’s Word, meditating on it and Scripture Journaling are all good ways to allow God’s Word to soak into our lives and help us.

We can draw strength from it and choose to take God at His Word and allow Him to have control rather than allowing the fears and anxieties to have control.

You can use the verses below as a starting point.  Take them one at a time and, as you meditate on them, allow God and His Word to transform you and your thinking.

19 Bible Verses on Fear and Anxiety:

Isaiah 43:1-2

Don’t be afraid, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name. You are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overflow you.  When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, and flame will not scorch you.

Philippians 4:6

In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.

Psalm 55:22

Cast your burden on Yahweh, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.

1 Peter 5:6-7

Psalm 3:2-6

Selah.  I laid myself down and slept.  I awakened; for Yahweh sustains me.  I will not be afraid of tens of thousands of people who have set themselves against me on every side.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you.  Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you.  Yes, I will help you.  Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

He said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, don’t be anxious for your life, what you will eat, nor yet for your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing. Consider the ravens: they don’t sow, they don’t reap, they have no warehouse or barn, and God feeds them. How much more valuable are you than birds!  Which of you by being anxious can add a cubit[a] to his height?  If then you aren’t able to do even the least things, why are you anxious about the rest?

Mark 6:50

For they all saw him, and were troubled. But he immediately spoke with them, and said to them, “Cheer up! It is I! Don’t be afraid.”

Cast all your worries on Him because HE CARES FOR YOU!

17 Bible Verses on Hope

17 Bible Verses on Hope

The Cambridge dictionary says that hope is “to want something to happen or to be true, and usually have a good reason to think that it might”.

As Christians our hope is more than just wishing for something good to happen.

Hebrews 6:19 tells us that hope is the anchor of our soul. Our hope, our anchor is God Himself, His Word, His promises, His salvation and promise for a purposeful life here on earth and an eternity with Him.

But what happens when we lose hope?

Lost hope can result in a lack of energy, motivation and passion.  It is a powerful emotion which can lead to negative thinking about ourselves, our circumstances and the world around us and can lead to depression and isolation.

There may be times when we will need to speak with a professional, such as a counsellor, to help us through times of hopelessness and depression.

As Christians, we can also find comfort and strength in God and His Word.

As we read and meditate on God’s Word we can not only draw strength from it but we can also allow God’s truth to renew our minds and our thinking.

Scripture Journaling is a great way to spend time with God and His Word and soak up the truth of the hope God gives us.

You can use the following verses as a starting point.  Take them one at a time and, as you meditate on them, allow God to speak His truth into you and allow His Word to transform you and your thinking.
